Do I need a permit to start classes?

No permit is required to start taking the driver's education virtual classes. The student must be at least 16 by the first day of class. 

Does the classroom have to be completed to start behind-the-wheel lessons?

No. Once you have started classes, completed at least four (4) classes, and have a permit, you may schedule your driving lessons through our website. 

What happens after I complete the class?

The e-DEC will be uploaded to your Student Portal within 5-7 days after completing the requirements below. To be issued an e-DEC, the following must be completed:

  • Pass all classroom quizzes with a score of 70% or higher.
  • Parental or guardian signature for the Parent Class. 
  • Provide a valid CT permit number.
  • Complete all required courses.
  • The account must be paid in full.

What is your refund policy?

Any fees paid to IDDA are Non-refundable and non-transferable.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, Discover card, American Express, Check, or Cash. Checks are payable to "I Drive Driving Academy."

Do you offer payment plans?

We understand that flexibility is important, so we are happy to offer payment plans to help make the process easier for you. Please let us know if you'd like to discuss available options or set up a customized payment plan that works best for your needs. We're committed to providing the best experience possible and are here to assist you every step of the way!

What if I forgot my username or password?

You can reset your username or password on our website by clicking the "Forgot your Username or Password?" link on the login page.

How old do I need to be to start driver's ed?

You must be at least 16 by the first day of the driver's ed class. 

How long does it take to complete a driver's ed?

The completion time depends on age, scheduling flexibility, and instructor availability. Typically, each student is done with the classroom portion and behind-the-wheel lessons within eight weeks. 

Do I need a temporary license to start driver's ed?

If you are 18 or older, you'll need a valid, unexpired learner's permit or driver's license to start driving lessons. If you are under 18 and have taken the driver education class, you'll need a valid, unexpired learner's permit to start driving lessons. 

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

If you are unable to keep your appointment, you must give a 24-hour (minimum) cancellation notice. Use the Student Portal to cancel, OR Call or text 860-517-4821 to avoid the cancellation fee. If you fail to give a 24-hour notice and need to cancel your appointment within 24 hours of your appointment time, you must email AND call 860-517-4821. You will still be charged a $30 (thirty) late cancellation fee, which is payable to "I Drive Driving Academy (IDDA)" before your next scheduled lesson.

BEHIND-THE-WHEEL

When can I start the behind-the-wheel lessons?

You can start driving lessons anytime with a valid learner's permit or driver's license. You can schedule driving lessons on our website once registered and paid in full. If you are under 18, you must complete a minimum of four (4) driver's ed classes before starting behind-the-wheel lessons. 

How fast can I complete behind-the-wheel lessons?

This depends on your scheduling flexibility and instructor availability. You can take one 2-hour behind-the-wheel lesson each day and schedule up to three driving lessons in advance. 

Driving lesson progression is determined by skill-based advancement and individual performance. Instructors tailor lesson plans based on their professional evaluation and the student's demonstrated learning. The instructor's discretion ensures that each session is conducted in a safe and productive environment, aligning with our mission to prioritize safety and effective learning.

How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?

Log in to your student account on our website. Choose an available time and your preferred instructor. 

Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?

No, you are covered under our commercial insurance during all behind-the-wheel training. 

Do you offer home pick-up and drop-off?

Lessons begin and end at designated pickup/drop-off locations. These locations are communicated in advance (they can also be found in the student portal) and are intended to facilitate a smooth transition for students into and out of their lessons.

What will I learn during my behind-the-wheel lessons?

Driving lesson progression is determined by skill-based advancement and individual performance. Instructors tailor lesson plans based on their professional evaluation and the student's demonstrated learning. The instructor's discretion ensures that each session is conducted in a safe and productive environment, aligning with our mission to prioritize safety and effective learning.

Can I request a specific driving instructor?

Our scheduling software lets you see all available driving lessons and who is teaching them. If your preferred instructor is open, you can select them for a lesson.

Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?

Our scheduling software lets you see all available driving lessons and who is teaching them. If the lessons are open, you may choose the same instructor for each lesson or try a different instructor.

Will I have other students in the car with me?

We are committed to providing all our students with a safe, professional, and effective learning environment. To ensure the highest quality of instruction, maintain safety, and focus on the driving lessons, I Drive Driving Academy does not allow anyone besides enrolled students or I Drive Driving Academy instructors in the vehicle during driving lessons. There are no exceptions to this policy. All driving lessons will be conducted with only the student and a DMV-certified I Drive Driving Academy instructor.

Can I request to have lessons with a friend?

We are committed to providing all our students with a safe, professional, and effective learning environment. To ensure the highest quality of instruction, maintain safety, and focus on the driving lessons, I Drive Driving Academy does not allow anyone besides enrolled students or I Drive Driving Academy personnel in the vehicle during driving lessons. There are no exceptions to this policy. All driving lessons will be conducted with only the student and a DMV-certified I Drive Driving Academy instructor.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my driving lesson?

Should you need to reschedule a lesson, you may do so by logging into your account on our website. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $30 late cancellation fee. 

Can I use my own car?

No, our vehicles have safety features (passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that don't come in standard cars.

Are your instructors licensed?

Yes, each of our instructors is licensed by the Connecticut DMV to teach classroom and behind-the-wheel training to all age groups. 

What safety equipment are your cars equipped with?

Our vehicles have safety features (passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that don't come in standard cars.
